Hey! Everyone with a passion for post-apocalyptic films should get this IMMENSE and INCREDIBLE bible on the subject - World Gone Wild: A Survivor's Guide to Post-Apocalyptic Movies". Huge work by David J. Moore. Plus, book happens to have a very nice interview with director Pat Tremblay for this film. Highly recommended.

It is with great sadness that I'm here to report that Navin Pratap, the actor who voiced the character of John Glass in Hellacious Acres, has passed away a few days ago, in his Toronto apartment. He was only 31 years old... Working with him was a great pleasure, he was very professional and enthusiastic, had the fire of passion in him, and had an awesome sense of humor.

Sending my love and thoughts to his brother Vinesh and his family. His funeral will be held at the Chapel of chimes 10179 108 St, in Edmonton, this Saturday at 2pm.

Just received a few media quotes from reviews of the film coming from Germany, following its appearance last September at the Oldenburg Film Festival. Better late than never! Here they are:

"A movie lover’s highlight. The tragic humor, the funny costumes and the original camerawork are all impressively immediate and bring the audience straight into the world of John Glass."
Stadtmandat

"Hellacious Aces is an apocalyptic nightmare. Director Pat Tremblay presents his story darkly, bleakly but at the same time quirky and with a clever sense of humor and surprise. The audience gladly joins this journey into the “Self Sector”."
Spielfilm.de

"The long walk of John Glass is the indie sensation of this year."
Nordwest Zeitung

"Hellacious Acres by Pat Tremblay is a wonderful addition to this festival. Great entertainment and a highly fulfilling experience for anyone in love with cinema."
NEGATIV Magazin für Filmkultur

Francis Barbier of DevilDead has put online the interview (in French) he conducted with me at the Lausanne Underground Film Festival. Here is the link:
Devil Dead Interview.

December 1rst, 2011

New review (in Spanish) of the film by the Judex Fanzine:
Judex Fanzine review. Which roughly translates as the following:
"Anomalous and completely insane, Hellacious Acres: The Case of John Class is of an irresistible outlandishness whose main virtues are not to take itself too seriously and to boast with of a bizarre sense of humor (unbelievable the way John Class have to eat and defecate!). Framed in inhospitable forests and rural landscapes (the hellacious acres of the title), surrounded by farms and stables in ruins, the film turns out to be an unusual retro-futuristic and post-apocalyptic American gothic film. Ideal for being watched in the early (or late) morning and, if possible, with a mild psychotropic."

Ok. For anybody who doesn't know yet, one promo item I handmade to give out to female fans of of the film, were pairs of Hellacious Acres panties.... (men get t-shirts). I got surprised when, for the first screening in Taïwan, alot of women from the audience wanted to get the single pair I was offering...! (they were much shyer for the 2nd screening, but that's no surprise, almost everywhere else on the fest circuit, there's rarely a taker! Haahaa!). The famous and well known paper "The Liberty Times" got a hold of the scoop and the news made it in print! Apparently, this newspaper never goes for unknowns, let alone film directors, focusing instead on big celebrities, according to my sources. So, what do you know, just as I was on the verge of saying goodbye to the very generous, courteous and lovable Kaohsiung crew, the festival director gets a phone call about it... A couple of minutes later, Paul got to a local store and got me a fresh copy of the paper...! You can see the whole thing right here:!!! I'm pictured with the winner.

You can also find a new French review at the bottom of the main one for the 24 Images cinema magazine: 24 Images review
English translation read as such: "Meanwhile, at the Fantasia festival, a real low budget film entitled Hellacious Acres : The Case of John Glass, from Pat Tremblay, revisits - voluntarily - Z movies by making a hilarious B one, a bit like if the Monty Pythons had overtaken the shoot of Stalker by Andrei Tarkovski. Fully conscious of the spectator's point of view, the filmmaker plays with a crazy talent for the grotesque in every scene. Jam-packed with visual inventions and story twists, all delightful on many levels, Hellacious Acres proves that bad movies are never where you think you will find them. This time, we have a hearty laugh and find new faith in genre cinema."

And ank cool thank you to World of Superheroes for posting a big update on the film!: World of Superheroes spotlight
